Our Mission
The mission of MECH is to promote the well-being of working families in Southern California by increasing and preserving the supply of affordable housing.
Our History
Mary Erickson Community Housing (MECH), is a 501 (c)(3)non-profit corporation and designated Community Housing Development Organization serving Southern California.
Mary Erickson Community Housing was founded in 1991 by its namesake, a retired school teacher who was devoted to the principals of community participation and well-being. MECH established the first affordable housing complex in San Clemente and has since grown to include multiple properties and developments serving hundreds of families in Southern California.
Our Goals
- To provide quality, affordable homes (both rental and homeownership) for working families
- To promote self-sufficiency of our tenants through Life Skills and Teens Forward programs
- To stabilize and transform communities hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis
- To develop community support for affordable housing
